Fursty 1952

22nd FBS "fight song"

22nd Squadron Song..Circa 1954
We're from the 22, the hairy chested 22. We take pride in everything we do. We take delight in stirring up a fight. We beat Hawks and Tigers on the head til they're dead. Hee, Hee, Hee, Ho, Ho, Ho, Haw, Haw Haw. We have gotten a rep for being rotten. We put poison in our CO's cream of wheat. We're from the 22. the hairy chested 22 and we eat raw raw meat called the weener, MORE BEER! Dawson

I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS EXACTLY HOW IT WENT. IF ANYONE DOES KNOW IF THIS IS RIGHT OR IF IT NEEDS SOME "TWEEKING" PLEASE LET ME KNOW?

From "Fursty" to Bitburg Nov 1952

I late 1952 we moved from "Fursty" to Bitburg AFB. It was a new base built by a French contractor. Bitberg is on the West side of Germany located about midway, north & south.
The thing I remember about it was there was MUD everywhere. Many sidewalks were not finished and since it was the beginning of winter there was mud up to your ankles in many places.
If I recall the new base was located in the "French Sector" of Germany so we had to provide our own security. I know I pulled guard duty for the first time since I got to Germany. We were spoiled at "Fursty" where we had Polish Guards.
The following several pictures were of Bitburg as we were trying to turn it into a new base.
